The True Tone feature automatically adjusts the display’s color temperature (warm/cool) and the Auto-Brightness adjusts screen brightness based on ambient light, ensuring a more natural and high-contrast viewing experience.
If you don’t transfer or reprogram this feature during a display replacement, the phone will stop supporting it — even if the new display is fully functional.
However, for devices running iOS 18, the True Tone function is preserved directly in the device, even after a screen replacement. No data transfer from the original display is required.
🔧 How to preserve True Tone and Auto-Brightness when replacing a display?
The solution is to use an Apple display programmer. This tool allows you to:
Read data from the original display (EEPROM)
Write it to the new display
Preserve True Tone and Auto-Brightness functionality after the replacement
✅ How to Choose the Right Display Programmer?
When choosing a programmer, consider the following:
Compatibility
Not every programmer supports all iPhone models.
Check whether your model (e.g. iPhone X, 11, 12, 13...) is on the list of supported devices.
Brand and Quality
Trusted brands like JC, QianLi, Mechanic, etc., offer extended functions such as Face ID repair, Front sensor programming, Memory chip programming and much more. These brands are also known for long-term software and product support.
In practice, this means you won’t have to buy a whole new device when a new iPhone model is released — you’ll only need to purchase an additional board.
Additional Features
Some models allow you to also Program batteries, Restore Face ID, Read serial numbers from various components. All this depends on the specific programmer and compatible modules, which you can purchase separately on our website in the Programmers and Activators section.
🛠 How to Use a Programmer – Step by Step
STEP 1: Connect the original display to the programmer
The device will read EEPROM data from the display (True Tone data, SN, and more)
STEP 2: Save the data (if necessary)
Some programmers allow you to save data for multiple devices
STEP 3: Connect the new display
Transfer the data from the old display to the new one
STEP 4: Verify the result
After uploading the data, test the True Tone and Auto-Brightness functions in the iPhone settings.
❗Important Notes
If the original display is not available (broken or non-functional), True Tone can still be transferred on iPhone X–11 models by connecting the phone directly to the programming device.
For models from iPhone 11 Pro to 16 Pro Max, it is necessary to perform UNBIND – data extraction from the iPhone using a PC and the programmer manufacturer's software.Programming does not affect Face ID functionality, but improper handling can cause damage – recommended only for experienced technicians.
In some cases, it is necessary to correctly choose the quality and manufacturer of the target display (Original, Third Party).
This applies to models from iPhone 12 to 16 Pro Max.
⚠️ Note: The EEPROM in newer REFURBISHED and REFURBISHED PRO displays has a maximum of 5 write attempts.Copying data from the original display does not remove the unknown part warning. This topic is covered in the Non-original part section.
